On Sight

Lesson 4

Form: Composing the Photograph

FRANCE. The Var department. Hyères. 1932.

In the fourth lesson, students learn to intentionally frame images by understanding that there is a connection between what they see and what they photograph. Students will engage in a discussion about the work of Henri Cartier-Bresson and “The Decisive Moment.” This lesson is intended to encourage students to think about the decisions they are making when actively taking photographs, and reminds them that the camera is a tool that allows us to focus and capture moments in the flow of time.
