Alex and Rebecca Norris Webb Street Photography Workshop @ MCNY

Two renowned New York City–based street photographers—Alex Webb, of Magnum Photos, and Rebecca Norris Webb—will lead a special photography workshop exploring the genre and the opportunities and challenges of photographing on the streets of New York.

“I only know how to approach a place by walking. For what does a street photographer do but walk and watch and wait and talk, and then watch and wait some more, trying to remain confident that the unexpected, the unknown, or the secret heart of the known awaits just around the corner?” —Alex Webb

When framed by a photographic lens, what do the streets of a city say about its people and their relationship to the built environment? About its political and social concerns? About its culture? Designed for amateurs and professionals alike, this workshop will include presentations by the Webbs about the tradition of street photography, their critiques of a street photography assignment to be completed by participants prior to the workshop, and a gallery tour of museum exhibitions London Street Photography and City Scenes by curator Sean Corcoran. Lunch is included, and a reception with the artists will follow.
