Artist Talk: Meghan Boody

Tuesday, February 5

6:30 p.m. EDT

Aperture Gallery and Bookstore, 547 West 27th Street, New York, NY

Aperture Foundation, in collaboration with the School of Art, Media, and Technology at Parsons the New School for Design, is pleased to present an artist talk with Meghan Boody. Grounded in the realm of the tableau and using digital montage, Boody depicts spaces pulled directly from her own imagination. For a stage set she chooses an arctic tundra, an English moor, or vast palatial interiors, spaces which she populates with children, women, exotic animals, space-age machines, and unbridled natural forces. For Boody, these unlikely combinations compose a largely symbolic palette that deals in metaphor. Childhood, adolescence, fantasy, somnambulism, and deconstructed psychology are just some of the themes she engages. Her photographic practice bubbles over into multimedia sculpture, and Boody is gracefully fluent across mediums.

Boody has presented solo shows at Galerie Caprice Horn, Berlin; Rick Wester Fine Art, New York; Sandra Gering Gallery, New York; Fabia Calvasina Arte Contemporanea, Milan; and Thread Waxing Space, New York. Her work is included in the permanent collections of Fondazione Teseco, Pisa, Italy; Herbert F. Johnson Museum of Art at Cornell University, Ithaca, New York; Museum of Old and New Art (MONA), Berriedale, Tasmania, Australia; Progressive Corporation, Cleveland; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York. Boody has also lectured at such venues as the School of Visual Arts, New York; New York University; Maine College of Art, Portland; Skidmore College, Saratoga Springs, New York; New York Academy of Art; and Pratt Institute, Brooklyn.
