As part of the Photography, Expanded initiative, Magnum Foundation, Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project, and Aperture Foundation are pleased to present a panel discussion examining the changing roles and opportunities for photographers using social media and online platforms to share their work.

A paradigm shift has taken place with the rise of Facebook and Instagram, offering new ways for both amateur and professional photographers to engage audiences and participants globally. Through the use of new digital platforms and other social media outlets, photographers are now not only image-makers, but also online community organizers and content curators. Join us as we explore the possibilities and challenges facing photographers using collaborative storytelling and curatorial strategies for social impact.

Photography, Expanded is an initiative designed to inspire documentary photographers to expand their storytelling beyond the still image and catalyze collaboration across disciplines. Launched in 2013 by Magnum Foundation and Open Society Foundations Documentary Photography Project in collaboration with Wendy Levy and Aperture Foundation, this year’s program features a series of labs, panel discussions, and symposium.
