Dog Day Afternoon and Artist Talk with Richard Phibbs

Saturday, October 29

5:00 p.m. EDT

Aperture Gallery and Bookstore, 547 West 27th Street, 4th Floor, New York, NY

Enjoy a special dog day at Aperture Foundation. Meet dogs from the Humane Society in search of a home, take a Rescue Me style portrait of your pet, and hear photographer Richard Phibbs discuss his recent Aperture book. Artist talk begins at 1:00 p.m.

Art and fashion photographer Phibbs volunteered his services to the Humane Society of New York, making portraits of their rescue dogs to help find them forever homes. Rescue Me features sixty-four of these portraits alongside each dog’s journey, from often-shocking circumstances of abandonment and rejection, through rescue and the joy experienced in the new homes these photographs helped them find. This heartwarming New York story will appeal to dog and animal lovers all over the world. Author royalties from the sale of Rescue Me benefit the Humane Society of New York’s Clinic and Adoption Center.

On Friday, October 28 join Aperture for the Rescue Me book release party and installation.

Richard Phibbs (born in Calgary, Alberta) has shot fashion and advertising campaigns for Giorgio Armani, Ralph Lauren, and Calvin Klein. His editorial work has appeared in Vanity Fair, Vogue China, ESPN The Magazine, Paper magazine, Entertainment Weekly, and Condé Nast Traveler, among many others, and the best of his portraits and fashion photographs are featured in his first book, Chasing Beauty (2010). His prints have been collected by, among others, Anderson Cooper, Francis Ford Coppola, and Bill Clinton. Born and raised in western Canada, Phibbs has received degrees from the University of Toronto and Parsons School of Design. He lives in New York City with his own rescued buddy, Finn.

Doggy swag bags generously provided by The Barking Zoo.
The installation was made possible with support from Duggal Visual Solutions, Versatile studios and Trec.
