Marcelo Brodsky (photographer, Argentina) and Eduardo Cadava (professor, Princeton University)
Presentation of an ongoing series of workshops and publications focusing on the educational potential of photography in the classroom. Followed by a discussion on cultivating visual literacy as a tool in mediating traumatic experiences and constructing new narratives through archival materials and new photographic images.

Contemporary Photography and the Photobook: Between Latin America and Spain–Featuring Rámon Reverte (publisher, Mexico and Spain), Iatã Cannabrava (photographer and curator, Brazil), and Claudi Carreras (curator, Spain and Brazil)
In 2010, Editorial RM initiated a competition that selects for publication a previously unpublished project by photographers from Latin America, Spain, and Portugal. The winners of previous editions of the prize will be introduced, after which there will be a discussion of the state of contemporary photography in Latin America and the intersection of Latin American and Iberian photographic culture.

Horacio Fernández (Spain), curator at the Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid, and curator and author of The Latin American Photobook, in conversation with David Levi Strauss (US), author, critic, and chair of the Art Criticism and Writing MFA Program at the School of Visual Arts, New York.

Horacio Fernández, curator and author of The Latin American Photobook, wrote Fotografia Publica (1999), one of the first major books about the photobook. Shortly thereafter, Andrew Roth’s The Book of 101 Books was published, featuring the research and writing of David Levi Strauss, among other authors. Fernández and Levi Strauss discuss the growing area of research, scholarship, and critical writing around the photobook.

Pablo Ortiz Monasterio (photographer and editor, Mexico) and Sara Facio (photographer and editor, Argentina), moderated by Gabriela Nouzeilles
Presentation and discussion about La Azotea and Rio de Luz, two artist-driven Latin American publishers. Sara Facio and Pablo Ortiz Monasterio have both worked as photographers, editors, and publishers; they will introduce their individual publishing efforts on behalf of other photographers as well as their own photographic work.
