Aperture Foundation 60th Anniversary Gala Dinner & Photography Auction
More than 350 guests—including photographers and writers, photography collectors and dealers, and leading philanthropists—gathered for a glittering celebration at Gotham Hall on Tuesday, October 23, to mark the sixtieth anniversary of Aperture. The highlight was a landmark auction of sixty-two works by photographers closely identified with Aperture publications and projects. The evening also included a tribute to Henry Buhl, Sondra Gilman and Celso Gonzalez-Falla, John Gutfreund, Lynne and Harold Honickman, Mark Levine, Frederick Smith, and the many photographers and writers whose work has shaped the Aperture legacy. More than half a million dollars was raised to support Aperture Foundation’s critically acclaimed publications and exhibitions, innovative public programs, and ongoing discovery of new visionaries in the photographic medium.
Guests at the Patron Ticket and Table levels were also invited to attend specially arranged visits to the studios of major New York–based photographers, including Elliott Erwitt, David Levinthal, Mary Ellen Mark, Matthew Pillsbury, and William Wegman, and a cocktail reception at the home of Aperture trustee Willard Taylor and his wife Virginia Davies.
