Stephen Shore (b. 1947, New York, NY) is a notable self-taught photographer. At sixteen years old, he met Andy Warhol and frequently photographed Warhol at his studio, otherwise known as the Factory. He received a Guggenheim Fellowship in 1975, and, in 1971, he was the first living photographer to be exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. In 2017, the Museum of Modern Art hosted a major retrospective of his work. Shore has had a significant influence on more than one generation of artists and photographers. Currently, he serves as Director of the Photography Program at Bard College, Annandale-on-Hudson, New York.
