Nicolas Haeni created this image as part of a commission for Self Publish, Be Happy (SPBH). Its sleek studio style epitomizes Haeni’s  background of studying at the Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne (ECAL), which has developed a very strong presence in contemporary European photography, best described as Swiss with a playful twist: graphically impactful, somewhat absurd—International Style meets Fischli & Weiss. This image appears as included in the manual portion of the recent publication Self Publish Be Happy: A DIY Photobook Manual and Manifesto.


Nicolas Haeni (born in Switzerland, 1984) has a bachelor’s degree in photography and a master’s degree in art direction and photography. Haeni won the Voies Off Prize, Arles, in 2010. In 2012, he cofounded the collective Moos-Tang with Thomas Rousset. His work has been published in magazines such as Aperture, Openlab, Form, and Neon Magazine.
