She has received numerous awards, including NEA, NEH, and Guggenheim Foundation grants, and her work is held by major institutions internationally. John B. Ravenal is the Sydney and Frances Lewis Family Curator of Modern and Contemporary Art at the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts, Richmond. His recent exhibitions include Sally Mann: The Flesh and The Spirit (2010), Xu Bing: Tobacco Project (2011), and Ryan McGinness: Studio Visit (2014). He is currently working on an exhibition about Jasper Johns and Edvard Munch. He served as the fourth president of the Association of Art Museum Curators and was a 2012 fellow at the Center for Curatorial Leadership.
