Artist Talk
Artist Talk with Zackary Drucker
Monday, March 21
8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. CET
Join Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland for a conversation with Zackary Drucker. This event is in conjunction with the exhibition Orlando, curated by Tilda Swinton, which is organized by Aperture Foundation, New York.
The artist Zackary Drucker will provide insights into her work and working process. She will specifically talk about her collaboration with Rosalyne Blumenstein, muse and mentor to the artist. Blumenstein transitioned at 16 and went on to become director of the Gender Identity Project at the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender Community Center in New York. For Drucker’s series of Blumenstein, the artist presented her as a role model, a queen – and, above all, as herself. Drucker and Blumenstein are both iconic figures who have done a great deal to promote the visibility and recognition of trans people in the public arena and helped educate and organize within the community.
The event is free, will be held in English and takes place on Zoom, Monday, March 21, 8:00-9:00 PM Central European Time. Details on how to access the talk will be confirmed upon registration. Register here.
This event takes place in the framework of the exhibition Orlando – Based on a Novel by Virginia Woolf. The 1928 novel Orlando tells the story of a young noble person in the age of Queen Elizabeth I who lives for centuries without ageing and has the mysterious ability to switch gender. In 1992, film-maker Sally Potter devised what has become a classic adaptation of the book with actress Tilda Swinton in the title role. The exhibition of the same name, developed by Swinton, shows the work of contemporary artists and photographers who explore the main themes dealt with in Orlando’s story: gender fluidity, the idea of boundless consciousness and the prospect of living forever.
