2:30 p.m. EST

Mana Contemporary, 888 Newark Ave, Jersey City, NJ 07306

Join Aperture at the 2025 Jersey Art Book Fair for a special presentation by artist Susan Meiselas in celebration of the new edition of Nicaragua: June 1978–July 1979. Originally published in 1981 and a seminal contribution to the literature of concerned photography, Susan Meiselas’s Nicaragua forms an extraordinary narrative of a nation in turmoil.

Starting with a powerful and chilling evocation of the Somoza regime during its decline in the late 1970s, the images trace the evolution of the popular resistance that led to the triumph of the Sandinista revolution in 1979. The book includes interviews with various participants in the revolution, along with letters, poems, and statistics. Through powerful imagery, firsthand accounts, and archival materials, Meiselas captures the spirit of resistance and the hope for a new future. By bridging the past and present, the images invite us to reflect on the enduring power of photography and the complex nature of historical memory. This third edition expands on the project and includes thirty images linked via QR codes to excerpts from films throughout where Meiselas revisits her subjects and engages with local communities.

Presented by Dense magazine and hosted by Monira Foundation and Mana Contemporary, the Jersey Art Book Fair will feature two hundred exhibitors, including publishers, artists, designers, collectives, galleries, and university programs. Aperture is pleased to join the fair and to present our newest book releases and limited-edition prints.
