Vân-Nhi Nguyễn and Varun Nayar on As You Grow Older | Aperture Conversations

Wednesday, August 9

7:00 p.m. EST

Join us for a special conversation between 2023 Aperture Portfolio Prize winner Vân-Nhi Nguyễn and associate managing editor of Aperture magazine, Varun Nayar, as they discuss Nguyễn’s winning series As You Grow Older, which depicts young people in Vietnam untethered from stereotype or category. “While Vietnam represents for many in the West a place where a war was fought or athletic shoes are made, its people bear witness to a richer and far more complex reality,” says Nguyễn. “To expand and challenge the existing perception of Vietnamese people is to see and understand the unruliness of it all.”

The exhibition Vân-Nhi Nguyễn: 2023 Aperture Portfolio Prize Winner is on view at Baxter St at the Camera Club of New York, August 2–September 1, 2023.

The conversation will be prerecorded and will premiere on Youtube on August 9, at 7:00 p.m. EDT.
