New York, July 7, 2026—Nearly fifty years after its first publication in 1978, and reissued to meet perennial demand, Aperture is pleased to reissue the classic photobook Joel Meyerowitz: Cape Light. Comprised of Meyerowitz’s series of serene and contemplative color photographs taken on Cape Cod, Massachusetts, Cape Light quickly became one of the most influential and popular photobooks in the latter part of the twentieth century, breaking new ground both for color photography and for the medium’s acceptance in the art world.

The re-issued book features the now-iconic images of the original edition, newly remastered. Within the volume, everyday scenes—an approaching storm, a local grocery store at dusk, the view through a bedroom window—are transformed by the stunning light of Cape Cod and the luminous vision of the photographer. Meyerowitz is a contemporary master of color photography, and through his eyes small-town life on the Cape is imbued with a powerful and captivating beauty.

On the occasion of the release, Meyerowitz has partnered with Aperture to offer three limited-edition prints from the Cape Light series, selected by the artist from his private archive. Available exclusively through Aperture and editioned for the first time in a 5 × 7 inch format, the prints are available from July 7-21 and priced at $130 each or as a set with the book for $360. All purchases help fulfill Aperture’s mission to support the artists and conversations shaping the future of photography. Details are available at aperture.org.

Joel Meyerowitz: Cape Light (50th Anniversary Edition) is published by Aperture and available at aperture.org.
