Artist Talk
Artist talk with Jamal Nxedlana
Thursday, March 31
8:00 p.m. - 9:00 p.m. CET
Join Fotomuseum Winterthur, Switzerland for a conversation with Jamal Nxedlana. This event is in conjunction with the exhibition Orlando, curated by Tilda Swinton, which is organized by Aperture Foundation, New York.
The artist Jamal Nxedlana will provide insights into his work. The artist is fascinated by the intersections of fashion and street culture in Johannesburg. As part of the show Orlando – Based on a Novel by Virginia Woolf Fotomuseum Winterthur is currently exhibiting a portrait series of the performance duo FAKA – Fela Gucci and Desire Marea – that Nxedlana realized in Yeoville, a neighborhood in Johannesburg known to some as an ‘intergalactic spiritual portal.’ Not unlike the title character in Orlando, FAKA’s looks transcend gender, race and class binaries. In a talk with Nadine Wietlisbach, director of Fotomuseum Winterthur, Nxedlana will speak about his collaboration with FAKA and his working process.
The event is free, will be held in English and takes place on Zoom. Details on how to access the talk will be confirmed upon registration. Register here.
