Lesson twelve introduces students to the idea of context: how and where we encounter images on a daily basis. Through the work of Hank Willis Thomas, Philip Montgomery, and Elliott Erwitt, students will understand that context refers to both the situation in which a photograph is made and the circumstance in which it is used or seen, and the context in which we encounter images influences their meanings.
