Shane Lavalette (b. 1987, Burlington, Vermont) is an American photographer. He holds a BFA from Tufts University in partnership with The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The High Museum of Art commissioned Lavalette to create a series of photographs for their “Picturing the South” exhibition in 2012. Out of this came his monograph, One Sun, One Shadow—named one of the “Best Books” by photo-eye, nominated for the Kassel Photobook Award, and shortlisted for the Author Book Award at Les Rencontres d’Arles. Solo exhibitions have been presented at Robert Morat Galerie in Germany, Kaunas Gallery in Lithuania, and Le Château d’Eau in France. In 2016, Lavalette was commissioned by Fotostiftung Schweiz and Musee de l’Elysee to create a new body of work in Switzerland. His second monograph, Still (Noon), will be published by Edition Patrick Frey in 2018. Lavalette’s photographs have also been shown at the Center for Documentary Studies at Duke University, Aperture Foundation, Montserrat College of Art, The Carpenter Center at Harvard University, Center for Photography at Woodstock, Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, LagosPhoto, East Wing, Pingyao International Festival, and featured by The New York Times, TIME, NPR, CNN, The Telegraph, Foam Magazine, Hotshoe, among others.
