This limited-edition photograph, Mayne Island, 2010, by Olivia Bee, encapsulates both her work's playful and dramatic sides. Unlike any other young contemporary photographer, Bee does not play the role of voyeur in her photographs. Her subject matter comes from her own life experiences. Bee explains, “That’s my best friend Liam’s dad’s camper. We all went to Mayne Island, which is this little island off the west coast of Canada. Liam’s parents have a house there, and they always take their trailer.” Her imaginative photos possess the magic of teetering between childhood and adulthood. She has an undeniable signature style: a mix of dreamy romanticism and nostalgia. Bee’s first solo show in New York, Kids in Love, was on view at agnès b. Galerie Boutique in July 2014.
