Description
Aperture is pleased to present to our collecting audience the remaining copies of a very special limited-edition portfolio. The New York portfolio was created in conjunction with the Museum of the City of New York on the occasion of the artist's solo exhibition Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao’s New York: Assembled Realities.

As Liao states, “New York City is the most photographed city in the world, and there are too many good photographs already made,” he says. “The new generation, like me, we just needed to figure out a new way to shoot the city differently." And that he has, with meticulous care and the use of multiple exposures, Jeff Chien-Hsing Liao crafts each of his images with technological precision. Shooting primarily with a large-format film camera, then scanning and digitally editing the negatives, Liao creates enormous, detail-driven panoramas of the social and urban landscape of New York.  From rehabilitated Coney Island to the Grand Concourse in the Bronx, from the demise of Shea Stadium in Queens to the newly built One World Trade Center, Liao has created a lasting document of a significant period of transformation in New York’s skyline and social fabric. His unique perspective on New York is both personal and hyperreal, managing to capture both the lasting charm of the city’s well-known landmarks as well as the moment when New York entered the twenty-first century.
