Join us at Aperture for a special conversation between Anshika Varma from Offset Projects and Russet Lederman and Olga Yatskevich from 10×10 Photobooks, as they discuss the independent publishing scene from New Delhi to New York.
Offset Projects is a curatorial initiative engaging with acts of reading and creation through photography’s relationship with printed matter. Rooted in South Asia, it addresses images as sites of memory, imagination, and collective knowledge-making through artist books, exhibitions, reading rooms, workshops, residencies, and public programs. Its work fosters transnational exchange while examining the social, political, and material lives of images. 10×10 Photobooks is a nonprofit, community-oriented organization that champions and facilitates thoughtful and passionate engagement with the photobook through a focus on contemporary practice and overlooked publications, stories, and creators in photobook histories.

Anshika Varma’s practice engages with images and the many worlds that reside within them. Working across image making, publishing, and curation, she investigates how personal, collective, and mythical histories shape relationships between individuals and their environments. Her work foregrounds memory, inheritance, and loss, exploring quiet materiality as vessels of identity and sites of shared experience. Central to her practice is the book, both as an artistic medium and a democratic space, one that resists exclusivity and expands access to artistic expression. Anshika’s works and curations have been part of exhibitions, festivals, and conversations at Fotomuseum Winterthur; Aarhus Museum; Lumenvisum, Hong Kong; Photo Kathmandu; and Chennai Photo Biennale. She has contributed essays and interviews to Aperture magazine, Photobooks&, 1000 Words, and the Alkazi Foundation. She is the founder of Offset Projects.
Russet Lederman is a writer, editor, and photobook collector who lives in New York City. She has taught art writing at the School of Visual Arts in New York and writes on photobooks for print and online journals, including FOAM, The Eyes, IMA, Aperture and the International Center of Photography. She is a cofounder of the 10×10 Photobooks platform, coedits The Gould Collection, and has edited numerous photography-based publications, including What They Saw: Historical Photobooks by Women, 1843–1999 and Flashpoint! Protest Photography in Print, 1950–Present. As an international lecturer on photobooks, she has given presentations at the Victoria and Albert Museum and Tate Modern, London; Museum of Modern Art, Metropolitan Museum of Art, and New York Public Library, New York; Paris Photo; Reina Sofìa Museum, Madrid; and Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam.
Olga Yatskevich is a cofounder of 10×10 Photobooks, a nonprofit, community-driven organization dedicated to broadening and deepening engagement with the photobook. She has coedited six anthologies on photobooks, most recently Flashpoint! Protest Photography in Print, 1950–Present. An earlier publication, What They Saw: Historical Photobooks by Women, 1843–1999, received the 2021 Paris Photo–Aperture Catalog of the Year Award. Olga is a contributing writer for Collector Daily, a platform that offers photography criticism from a collector’s perspective. She lives and works in New York City.
