Aperture Gallery Walk

Friday, February 7

Join Aperture members, trustees, and community for a morning gallery walk featuring exhibitions of the work on Richard Misrach, Irving Penn, and Dawoud Bey. Attendees will be joined by Dawoud Bey, who will lead the group through his exhibition Stony the Road at the final stop of the walk.

The walk will begin at PACE Gallery, where PACE Vice President Lauren Panzo will lead attendees through the exhibition Richard Misrach: CARGO. Aperture recently honored Richard Misrach at the 2024 Aperture Gala and is looking toward the publication of Richard Misrach: Cargo this spring.

Attendees will then meet PACE Senior Director Kimberly Jones to view Irving Penn: Kinship, curated by Hank Willis Thomas. This show spotlights works produced by Penn throughout his seventy-year career, including selections from his Worlds in a Small Room series, his iconic portraits of artists, actors, and writers, and other genres of his work.

The final stop is Sean Kelly Gallery, where Aperture Trustee Dawoud Bey will lead us through his exhibition Stony the Road. This powerful exhibition explores African American history and the traumas embedded in the American landscape, bringing together works from Bey’s landscape series, including Night Coming Tenderly, Black (2017) and In This Here Place (2021). Many of these works were also featured in the publication Dawoud Bey: Elegy, copublished by Aperture and the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts in 2024.
