A Season of Public Programs at Aperture’s New Home
This fall, Aperture’s bookstore and gallery will host artist talks, panel discussions, and book celebrations with Gillian Laub, Elle Pérez, Stephen Shore, and Coreen Simpson.
Located on the first two floors of a historic building in a bustling neighborhood on the Upper West Side in Manhattan, Aperture’s new home will be a place to gather, share ideas, and engage with photography. Here’s a preview of this season’s events, from a dynamic program in the gallery and bookstore to a lively calendar of talks and collaborations.

Aperture Loves New York
On view September 18–November 1, 2026
The inaugural installation at Aperture’s new gallery, Aperture Loves New York, pays tribute to photographers who have shaped—and been shaped by—the city. Showcasing artists anchored in Aperture’s publishing history, the presentation brings together important and memorable photographs with corresponding Aperture books that have advanced the medium of photography and captured the complex spirit of New York City. Organized by Sarah Meister, Executive Director, the installation features photographs by more than twenty artists, including Diane Arbus, Tina Barney, Dawoud Bey, Awol Erizku, Robert Frank, Lee Friedlander, Nan Goldin, Deana Lawson, Stephen Shore, Coreen Simpson, and Carrie Mae Weems.

Elle Pérez: Devotions Book Launch

Love, heartache, pleasure, pain—Elle Pérez has emerged as a defining voice of their generation, collecting over the past decade a trove of deeply personal and arresting images of vulnerability’s rawest materials. Join us for a special book launch of Devotions (Aperture, 2026), the artist’s first monograph. Pre-signed books will be available for purchase. Advanced registration required.

Photobook Publishing Across the Globe
Wednesday, September 30, 6:30 p.m. EDT
In this conversation, Anshika Varma from Offset Projects and Russet Lederman and Olga Yatskevich from 10×10 Photobooks will discuss the independent publishing scene from New Delhi to New York. Rooted in South Asia, Offset Projects is a curatorial initiative engaging with acts of reading and creation through photography’s relationship with printed matter. 10×10 Photobooks is a nonprofit, community-oriented organization that champions and facilitates thoughtful and passionate engagement with the photobook through a focus on contemporary practice and overlooked publications, stories, and creators in photobook histories. Through October 2, Offset Projects will present a curated selection of books for sale in Aperture’s bookstore, showcasing a range of independent South Asian publishers.

Aperture Loves New York: Stephen Shore and Lucy Gallun
Saturday, October 3, 1:00 p.m. EDT
Marking the presentation of Aperture Loves New York, Stephen Shore and Lucy Gallun, Curator in the Department of Photography at the Museum of Modern Art, New York, will discuss the photographer’s featured images from his landmark photobook Uncommon Places (Aperture, 1982 and 2015) and Shore’s enduring legacy.

In this conversation, photographer and filmmaker Gillian Laub and artist and curator Jil Weinstock will discuss Laub’s history in New York City and her acclaimed career, including an iconic photograph from her book Family Matters (Aperture, 2021), featured in the installation Aperture Loves New York.

Aperture Loves New York: Coreen Simpson and Rujeko Hockley

Coreen Simpson—photographer, writer, jeweler—has done it all. Working for publications such as Essence, Unique New York, and The Village Voice, from the late 1970s onward, Simpson covered New York’s art and fashion scenes, producing portraits of a wide range of Black artists, literary figures, and celebrities. In this conversation with the writer and curator Rujeko Hockley, Simpson will discuss her influential practice and storied history of photographing in New York.

PhotoWork Symposium
Wednesday, October 28, 6:30 p.m. EDT
Aperture and PhotoWork have come together to present a series of programs featuring the PhotoWork Senior Fellows, which aims to propel artists to the next stage of their careers. The inaugural program will feature presentations by the 2025 Senior Fellows: Michelle Arcila, Will Matsuda, and José Ibarra Rizo. Each artist will present the body of work created throughout the fellowship, followed by an intimate discussion on process and practice with their Mentors: Ron Jude, Raymond Meeks, and Kristine Potter.
