Guggenheim Private Tour | Gillian Wearing: Wearing Masks

Tuesday, May 10

6:30 p.m. EDT

Aperture Connect Council members and above are invited to join Trustee Elaine Goldman and Guggenheim Curator, Performance & Media, Nat Trotman on a private tour of Gillian Wearing: Wearing Masks exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum, on May 10 at 6:30 p.m.

Gillian Wearing: Wearing Masks is the first retrospective of Wearing’s work in North America, featuring over one hundred pieces, including photographs, videos, sculptures, and paintings. Wearing’s work examines the performative nature of identity, documenting the tensions between “public and private life, the individual and society, voyeurism and exhibitionism, and fiction and fact.”

Gillian Wearing was born in 1963 in Birmingham, England. In 1983, she earned her BFA at the Chelsea School of Art and Goldsmiths’ College, University of London. Solo exhibitions of Wearing’s work include City Racing, London (1993), Le Consortium in Dijon, France (1996), Centre d’Art Contemporain in Geneva (1998), Musée d’Art Moderne de Paris (2001), De Hallen in Amsterdam (2004), Galleria Civica di Arte Contemporanea di Trento (2007), and more.
