Perched on a hilltop above the gulf of Portofino, Belmond’s Hotel Splendido has long been one of the most celebrated addresses on the Italian Riviera.
This installation presents twenty-seven photographs by Chris Rhodes, commissioned by the luxury hospitality group Belmond in 2025 as part of an ongoing series that invites contemporary photographers to interpret the company’s historic properties through their own visual languages. Through his images, Rhodes captures the hotel’s personality and accumulated life. At Splendido, he drifts between the picturesque and the everyday, documenting fleeting moments that reflect the playful, scenic, and offbeat character of Splendido’s interiors, landscape, staff, and guests.
Presented at Aperture’s gallery at 380 Columbus Avenue, the installation is on view November 4–15, 2026. The accompanying book of Rhodes’s photographs, along with titles from the As Seen By series published by RVB Books, will be available for purchase in the Aperture bookstore.
Belmond is the presenting sponsor of Aperture’s 2026 Gala.
