An exhibition of new photographic self-portraits by Sally Mann, titled Upon Reflection, opens tonight at Edwynn Houk Gallery in New York, and will run through November 3. An opening reception for the artist will be held tonight, Thursday, from 6–8 pm.

Mann produced many of the Upon Reflection photographs after she was injured and immobilized in a horse-riding accident, and was forced take to “pictures of herself without having to haul the camera around, finding a trove of material within the confines of her own face (Self-Portraits) and her own damaged torso (Omphalos).” The show also includes over two hundred new ambrotypes, which are arranged “in groupings of three, nine, twenty, and even up to seventy-five plates.”

Aperture has published numerous books with Sally Mann, including At Twelve, Immediate Family, Still Time, Proud Flesh, and The Flesh and the Spirit.Â
