The Winter Stories photographer explains how a metallic model zeppelin he built found its way from the ceiling of his studio, into the pages of his 2009 Aperture monograph, and finally onto the ceiling of Aperture’s editorial offices.
A master of narrative staged photography, Ventura brings his imagined stories to life by building three-dimensional sets in miniature. Ventura’s Aperture monograph Winter Stories showcases the ink drawings and watercolors that he uses as a starting point for his stories, and images of the handmade album of Polaroids of works in progress that he creates as guides to his elaborate sets.
